The second UK Probate Research Awards (The Probies) is set to take place on Thursday 6th February 2020 at The De Vere Grand Connaught Rooms in London.

Known in the industry as ‘The Probies’, the ceremony will celebrate the achievements and example of excellence across forensic genealogy.

Sponsored by the National Association of Licensed Paralegals (NALP) and have been created in recognition that probate research has emerged as a profession, which provides fascinating stories about families and life, whilst delivering an invaluable public service.

Geoffrey Odds, company secretary of the International Association of Professional Probate Researchers and Genealogists (IAPPR) commented:

“These awards pay homage to the work of individuals who serve in this largely unsung industry which affects almost everyone. We therefore look forward to recognising the support this industry pays to local communities, Government agencies and the legal world, but also to families around the world.”

Amanda Hamilton, Chief Executive of NALP, commented:

“Probate genealogy is one of the most exciting career paths available to paralegals so we want to do everything in our power to educate the wider world of its dynamics and benefits.”

Organiser of the awards, Director of Meerkat PR, and national publicity specialist, David Stoch, commented:

“Few industries are able to attract the national press quite like probate research. Editors and journalists in the UK and abroad take keen interest into the human sagas, often with positive or heart wrenching outcomes for individuals who are reunited with long lost family members.

“Probate research also has an enormous effect on the financial future of families, so the issues around it cannot be taken lightly – so it’s crucial that these fascinating stories about life and legacy will be recognised and celebrated.”

A silent auction will also be held on the night, with the proceeds being donated to the Alzheimer’s Society.
