Firing real guns
In the UK we have some of the strictest control measures in the world when it comes to giving the general public access to firearms. Laws differ slightly and are generally less restrictive in Northern Ireland.
The UK government banned the private possession of handguns in 1997 after the Dunblane massacre, but citizens are still able to own and shoot some shotguns and rifles, providing they have a license.
If you’d like to try shooting a handgun (at a range with a paper target, not on the streets and certainly not at anything alive) then you’ll need to travel outside the UK.
One place where you can fire a variety of guns, within the controlled environment of a shooting range is Krakow in Poland. Chantal Cooke, who sits on our Governing Board, tried her hand at a number of different guns… and this is what the experience taught her

If you’re tempted to fire a gun, take a trip to Poland and do it in a safe, controlled environment. The guys at the Cracow Shooting Academy are a million miles away from the gun-toting idiots you might find on YouTube. Rather this is a place where they have a respect for the weapons and for their, and your, safety.
