Course Profile | Your Inside Look at the NALP Level 3 Diploma

Part 3: Developing Your Skills

When you’ve got a licensed qualification as a paralegal, there’s nothing holding you back from entering a diverse and interesting group of legal fields! The final part of the NALP Level 3 Diploma in Paralegal Practice dives into several different areas of law which your career as a paralegal could involve.

You will gain a number of skills in these units, including: the ability to identify and use factual, procedural and theoretical understanding to complete tasks and address well defined but complex or non-routine issues; time management to include taking responsibility for initiating and completing tasks; the ability to exercise autonomy and judgement within a given scenario; and the ability to use and interpret legal language.

Let’s take a look at what you’ll be learning:

Conveyancing for Paralegals

  • Conveyancing involves the work surrounding the process of moving the legal ownership of property or land from one person to another.

  • You will understand the conveyancing process in England and Wales and be able to apply that knowledge to given scenarios. In particular, you will understand the role of the Paralegal in taking instructions from clients and matters relating to the client interview.

Commercial Law for Paralegals

  • Intellectual property law covers the ownership of ideas and concepts, such as inventions or patents. Contract law governs formal agreements between private parties. These two branches of law are often used in the corporate world.

  • You will understand the concept and scope of intellectual property and commercial contracts and have a detailed knowledge of contract law. You will analyse the concept of confidential information and how to protect it.

Employment Practice for Paralegals

  • Employment law governs the relationship between employers and employees, how agreements are made between them, and the rights an employee has at work.

  • In understanding the contractual relationship and wider scope of employment law, you will develop skills to apply the law in practical situations and understand  the situations where Paralegals can play a role in employment practice, such as assisting Human Resources departments.

Consumer Rights and Remedies for Paralegals

  • When you purchase goods, you have certain rights as a consumer. Consumer remedies refers to the area of law which covers redress for wrongs done by the seller of a product.

  • In understanding consumer law and the procedure for providing initial consumer advice, you will be ready to progress onto a higher level of learning in related areas of law.

By the end of this comprehensive course, you will be ready to enter the Paralegal profession with confidence! You might also want to progress to a higher qualification such as the NALP Level 4 Diploma in Paralegal Studies. Whether you’re just starting out in the legal sector or looking to develop your professional qualifications, the Level 3 Diploma provides an in-depth look at the skills and concepts you need to excel in the legal world.
